7 Warning Signs That Your Kid's Eating Habits Are Out of Control

When you see your child's eating habits getting out of control it can be an especially difficult and confusing time. However there are some warning signs that you should be on the look out for, to prevent matters from getting out of hand. It is sometimes a question of applying the old cliché "a stitch in time saves nine." This means that when you are aware of these clues you can do something about them

Here are 7 warning signs that your kid's eating habits are getting out of control.

1. Your child is gaining weight: Weight gain is often a sign that your teen is not eating as well as they could. Junk food snacking will put on weight with most people and your kid is no exception. The teenage years are those in which kids put on a growing spurt in many ways and they should be absorbing energy from their food not putting on unnecessary pounds and getting obese.

2. They are not as active as they should be: when your child starts to get overweight they will be less active and lethargy starts to creep in. Children of this age need to be active in order to develop correctly. Family exercise and activities can help to make your child take more exercise. You can even go to a gym together or take exercises at home together.

3. They are depressed: this is a very serious condition and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. If you are unable to get your teen out of this mental state you would be very wise to seek professional help. When children or adults get into a depressed state due to weight problems or other factors they can often seek solace in food. This can lead to serious eating disorders and compulsive eating.

4. They do not eat properly at meal times: when children of this age do not eat properly you know that they have been munching on snack foods and this can be very detrimental to their health. Most snack foods are categorized as junk because they have little or no nutrition and plenty of calories. This is not the sort of food that a growing teen needs. Junk food needs to be taken out of the home and replaced with other nutritious snacks. Sodas and sugar drinks should also be replaced.

5. They skip meals: skipping meals can lead to dangerous binging and digestive problems. Little and often is the key to faster metabolism and better health. try to discourage your kid from skipping meals as it will not help them lose weight. In fact it will lead to weight gain and can encourage eating disorders.

6. Food is becoming an obsession: sometimes your teen will look on food as a gratification tool. Whenever they are depressed or have had a bad day at school they will go and eat something, usually sweets or junk food to make them feel better. This can become a very dangerous association as they become more dependent on food and less dependent on family and friends support.

7. They are continuously munching on junk food: this is a bad habit that can follow them into adulthood and is just a bad habit. They need to have other activities to think about and do rather than just munching on snacks.
